Ming-Jyh Chern, B.S., M.S., D.Phil., Professor

Prof. Chern was born in Taipei.  Currently, Prof. Chern is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Taiwan Tech and in charge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Laboratory.  Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral fellow of Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica, Taipei.  Prof. Chern received his first degree and master degree from National Taiwan University.  Subsequently, he received his doctor degree (D.Phil) from University of Oxford in 1999.  He was financially supported by Ministry of Education (Taiwan), British Government, and St. Hughs College during his study in Oxford.

Prof. Chern has been engaged in research on  computational fluid dynamics since his doctoral study in Oxford.  He was interested at simulations of free surface fluid flows and interaction of fluids and structures during his study in Oxford.  After he was appointed an assistant professor of Taiwan Tech in 2000, he extended his research to several areas including performance test of ball valve, industrial ventilation, bio-medical fluid dynamics, PCR reactor, and DSMC method.  Some of results have been published in SCI journals such as Journal of Fluids Engineering, International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat and Fluids Flow and so on.
