Numerical study of thermal module of Light Emitting Diode lamp

 With the fast progress in LED lamp technology, the challenging problem for a LED lamp is that the high power density of LED in a small area can not be dissipated from a thermal module efficiently. The study of a LED lamp thermal module is considered at an outdoor windless environment. The LED lamp it dissipates heat by conduction and natural convection. The conjugate heat transfer of the LED lamp is simulated numerically under a variety of powers, ambient temperatures, and horizontal angles. According to the results, suggestion for the thermal module of the LED lamp is proposed. In the original thermal module, the junction temperature and thermal resistance is proportional to the power of LED, ambient temperature, and horizontal angle. The revised thermal module changes the flow field of natural convection and reduces the junction temperature and thermal resistance. Nevertheless, the efficiency of the revised thermal module is not affected by the horizontal angle. As a result, the revised thermal module enhances the heat transfer of the LED lamp.
